2008 Red Carpet Show

5:55 -- Good evening country music fans around the world! This is Shane Caldwell coming to you live from the Red Carpet Show at the 2008 CMT Music Awards. Thanks so much for joining us tonight for this grandest of grand events. I'm here with my blogging team Jennifer Morrison and Brian Bayley. Jennifer's here because I can't type and Brian's here because I'm too fat to move around under my own power. God bless them both. And God willing, we'll be with you all the way tonight. From the arrival of the first celebrity to the presentation of the very last award when one lucky artist takes home the coveted prize of Video of the Year and the rest go home full of bitterness and hate. This is truly going to be a night to remember...at least until we've all gotten back to our cars. I'll tell you, friends, this Red Carpet ceremony is already shaping up to be the best ever. No one has arrived yet and I'm already seeing stars! That's mainly because I was accidentally head-butted in the hoo-ha by a Little Jimmy Dickens impersonator but that means it can only get better from here on in. We're going to keep you up-to-date and in the know with exclusive, behind-the-scenes reporting from the red carpet, the green room, backstage, front of the house and all around the arena so don't... you... dare... go... anywhere! Back in a minute...
5:58 -- Before the show even starts we have four time Super Bowl Champion...Terry Bradshaw. "It's an exciting night, lot of fun...all these guys that are performing tonight, and gals-- it's kind of cool, I know most of them. My daughter, a Belmont student and aspiring singer/songwriter, Rachel, asked me to come with her tonight, so how could I say no. Came in from Oklahoma, took a flight in this morning at 12:20 and came in."
6:05 -- Well the stars having started arriving. And if Elvis rode a dinosaur in here right now it wouldn't be as exciting as what I've just seen. After Tom Arnold came through and wow'd the crowd with his down-home style, Blake Shelton came through with his dashing Brooks Brothers suit and had the women swooning. I must admit... I felt a bit faint myself. Looking for a cold compress to revive myself. Back soon...
6:12 -- And the stars keep coming... new host of the brand new show, Can You Duet,(premiering tonight right after the award show) Rossi Morreale, just had a veritable love fest with the fans. He loves them, they love him, this guy knows how to work a crowd. Back soon with more.
6:18 -- Just spoke with Tom Arnold. He promised before the night is over he'll stop by to make a special blog appearance for us with a special message for his fans. As you know, he is the fabulous host of the wildly popular show, My Big Redneck Wedding. More to come...
6:20 -- Miley Cyrus just walked by. She is young. She is fabulous. I am old and she remind me that I am old and flabulous.
6:22 -- I turned around and there was hot new artist James Otto and he has a message for all his fans... "Thank you for going out and buying my record, Sunset Man...and making my single number three this week...AND the number one album page this week on CMT.com! I love that! You guys rock!"
6:25 -- We've snagged another one... Jake Owen has a message for his fans. "I wish everyone could be here with me to see all the exciting stuff going on right now. I just got to shake hands with Terry Bradshaw and I got to meet Snoop Dog... and Miley Cyrus just walked by."
6:30 -- The stars just keep coming. Just caught a glimpse of LeAnn Rimes dress, it's more amazing than a Beatles reunion on Mars. Oh My God... Is that Nicole Kidman!? Yes that is Nicole Kidman! Is this heaven?
6:33 -- I just snagged that tall drink of water Chris Young, he wants to say hello to all his fans out there... "I still continue to see my video from a year and a half ago, so I just want to say thanks to all the fans for continuing to ask to see it. I also want to let everybody know that we just finished the new album. The new single, 'Voices,' is about to come out and hopefully there will be a new video to ask for soon."
6:38 -- We just found Bucky Covington. A hot new star who want to send a hot message to all his friends. "Okay, lets see
here... Hey for all my fans out there on tonight's performance pay attention to the guitar and thanks! Ya'll Rock!
6:39 -- Taylor Swift just walked by in 18 inch heels...I have never wished more that the Fountain of Youth existed so I could be young again and pretend I had a chance with her. Instead of being just a dirty old man.
6:45 -- Mega producer Tony Brown just walked by with his beautiful wife, Anastasia. I got to shake the hand of the man who has been the guiding hand with some of the biggest albums in country music history. He wanted to talk to us, unfortunately Anastasia spilled soda on his shirt and he had to go change it.
6:48 -- Taylor Swift just walked back through... I'm feeling older by the minute.
6:50 -- Just talked to Trace Adkins who has promised to be a guest blogger later in the evening. He was very pleased with his second place finish on Celebrity Apprentice. Coming in second means he doesn't have to spend the next year, as Trump's flunky.
6:55 -- Rock Legends Joe Walsh and Timothy B. Schmit of The Eagles have joined us and want to say a word or two to the fans.
Joe: "Hi, and it's great to be here. We are giving an award and receiving an award. It's going to be a wonderful evening. Thanks to everyone for the support.
Timothy: "We are here, thank you for having us. We are thrilled that the country community has embraced us like this, there's more to come."
7:00 -- Well that Red Carpet Show couldn't have been anymore amazing if Big Foot had flown in on Pegasus. Stars galore and much more to come. Bobby Brown just walked by and waved which means tonight is going to be a winner. I'll be back as soon as I make it to the fabulous green room for more from the 2008 CMT Music Awards.

I will never understand what people are hearing when they hear Taylor Swift or Jennifer Nettles sing,if they were on American Idol they would have already been voted off! They can’t sing, maybe only for the tone deaf! They should not be encouraged to think they are good when they are not! Just my opinion!!!
Judge says:

Paula(from Texas) says:
Sorry but this is not a very good comment, I love country music and I grew up on it as did my mom and dad and his mom and dad but the music that Taylor Swift plays is not country and the outfit she had on is a disgrace and people wonder why so many young girls now days get into trouble. Look at the role models they have these days. They have no respect for themselves and thats what our youth are perceiving. That is not what country is about. Thank you.
Linda says:
I hate to be this way, but there is NO WAY that Taylor is better than Carrie Underwood. You’ve got to be kidding..she must have a good promoter.
Norma says:
Hey Bucky!! We were proud to see you with your guitar!! We love you, and was so proud of you for being nominated!! Sorry that you didn’t win this time, But the BEST is yet to come!!!! Many more years of awards are ahead for you!! See ya in June!!!!!!

Bucky - you and Katherine looked AWESOME! Congrats on the nomination, consider tonight a training run for next year when we get that belt buckle in your hands!
Sheila (buckymouse) says:
Bucky - Good to see a little of you tonight! Congrats on the nomination. Even though they didn’t give you the mike for what should have been your acceptance speech, it was cool to see you give a silent shout out to your fans in the form of the fan club redneck guitar on a fan voted award show! How many other artists can do that?
Kerri (Kgator) says:
Bucky!
Thank you so much for playing the Fan club Redneck guitar on the stage tonight!! We feel very special and for you to do this for us, well there are no words left to describe the feeling! We are very proud to be your fans. You and Katherine looked so good in the audience, what an experience for both of you!! Bucky, the best is yet to come for you, Rocky, and the band!
Deronda Rice says:
I absolutely love Alan Jackson he is a realy Southern gentleman and he is what country music is all about. The others are good as well but hey c’mon if it is country music then Alan Jackson had it hands down! His wife looked really nice as well, I am sohappy they are ok. They are a great couple!
Beth (Gem) says:
Hey Bucky!
Having just seen you in CT a two weeks ago, it was great to see you again last night! I let Samantha stay up to watch you, and she was beside herself!
Using the “fans” guitar during your performance was also a very sweet and special gesture — just one more classy touch that your fans are getting used to! Sorry you didn’t win last night, but of course, you’re always a winner to us. And no worries…the “official” accolades are just a matter of time! Just keep doing your thing, and the rest will follow!
BTW, it was fun seeing Dierks and Luke after seeing them with you too. I know for a fact you won over a lot of fans that night!!
Rachel68005 says:
Awesome Bucky! Just awesome! It was so very cool to see you performing on live tv last night! We love you Bucky!!
Charlie says:
Where was the special tribute to Tammy Wynette? The tribute was advertised all over myspace, and Tammy Wynette’s official site. The tribute was one of the only reasons I tuned in to the show. Imagine my disappointment when there was no tribute to Tammy Wynette
CMT I would have expected better from you especially since in the past few years you have been so kind to the legacy of Tammy Wynette.
rhonda gifford says:
I MISSED THE WHOLE SHOW … WHEN IS IT GOING TO BACK ON RED CARPET ALSO????????? COULDN’T FIND THE CHANNEL AND CABLE WENT OUT 2 TIMES HELP??????????????THANKS A TRACE ADKINS WHOLE HEARTED FAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sara Jones says:
I was fairly disappointed in the show. Taylor Swift’s performance was the worst of the night. I don’t understand what anyone is hearing when she sings. It’s not talent. Also I was disappointed in the winners. I voted but sure not for some of the people who won.
Debbie says:
The show was awesome! Lot of laugh moments between Billy Ray and Miley :) Loved the clip with Miranda and Blake. Loved seeing Bucky with his showing off the guitar his fanclub bought for him. Def wish he would have won the award.
Lisa P says:
Hey Bucky!!! Great seeing you at the awards, wish you would have won, but you are a winner in our eyes(your fans)!! It was great for you to play the guitar we gave to you, you make us all so proud! Keep up the good work. I have faith you will succeed and have many awards along the way! Hugs to you Bucky!!!
laura:] says:
hello!!! Music changes every year. Everyone is like back then country was country. well it’s not anymore so get over it. Taylor Swift and Carrie Underwood did an amazing job! You people are shallow for even sayin that taylor swift, who is only a young adult, is a disgrace for country. How dare u!!! :(
France says:
Bucky Covington is definitely a hot new star! It was so cool to see him singing “A Different World” on the sub-stage.
Give him another year or two and we’ll get to see him in the spotlight on the big stage, along with an acceptance speech or two. I think he’s got a good blend of new country with old.
Melanie KY says:
Bucky,I bought tickets to the awards show for my daughter and me just so I could be there when you accepted your first major award trophy. Unfortunately, this wasn’t the time, but I know there will be many trophies in your future!
I want to say you’re so welcome for your Xmas gift and THANK YOU for thinking so much of us,your fans, that you would include us in your special night in this way. I didn’t know at the time that you were using that guitar because I couldn’t see it from the mosh pit. It’s probably a good thing or I would have had mascara running!
Love ya,Bucky & thanks for loving us! IT’S GOOD TO BE US,your fans!!!!
Melanie KY says:
Thank you Shane,Jennifer and Brian for delivering these messages to the fans. It’s fun to read and very much appreciated!

Bucky you are one special man. Just seeing how much your supporters mean to you by using the Redneck Guitar, makes me even prouder to be a Buckaneer. Love you Bucky! your 4×4 Camaro Lady
Vanessa says:
I love country music and what it stands for. Taylor Swift is not the traditional country artist. She has a way of connecting with the younger generation. My 7 year old daughter absolutely loves Taylor. Through Taylor, she has really gotten into Brad Paisley and Tricia Yearwood. Her performance was not the best at the awards however, live she is an inspiration to the younger population. Congradulations Taylor on your awards! See you on the road!
Valerie says:
LeAnn Rimes has once again proved what a talent she is! Great performance singing and dancing. Dean and LeAnn are a great looking couple. Beautiful dress worn by LeAnn-a little retro. Looked fun. One of the best performances of the night! Congrats to LeAnn and Bon Jovi on their award.

Thanks for the great blog! Kellie Pickler does look beautiful tonight! Have you seen Kristy Lee Cook? Was she on the Red Carpet or just in the audience?

sarah says:
I dont know who the hell the people are who vote but they have no taste. I cant believe that carried underwood has even made it this far, she cant sing, and then you put her up against faith hill, shania, reba and all the other greats and that little thing carries underwood, gets awards, unfreakin believable, she doesnt deserve anything that good, maybe one day Nashville we be the way it used to be when there was real talent. Like Shania, Reba, Dolly, Faith, and Loretta, with carrie underwood, we dont have much to hope for
sarah says:
Taylor Swift and Carrie Underwood will never be as great as Patsy Cline, Lorretta Lynn, Reba, And Dolly, they are just wannabees, and I dont know what person in their right mind or halfway know country or halfsmart would think they were great singers
